I have been holding on to this Mardi Gras Doubloon for several years and I have decided to let someone else enjoy it as much as I have. This is coin is so rare you will probably never see one again. In my world of coin collecting I might come across one of these about every million coins or doubloons that I search through. Not only is this one of the hottest and most sought after Kiss memorabilia as far as coins are concerned, it is in Gem Mint condition too.
This doubloon was minted for the 1983 Kiss Concert here in my hometown of New Orleans Louisiana, Creatures of the Night. Approximatly 10,000 of these were minted for a audience of over 30,000 people. Needless to say not everybody got one and as the years have passed I can tell that hardly any of these remain. After hurricane Katrina in 2005 almost all my doubloons were lost and I know this is the case for many other New Orleanians. It hard to put a value on something like this but I am going to start this auction at 19.99 and let you decide.
Get your bid in early so you can have this time less piece of Rock and Roll History by one of the most beloved Rock Bands EVER, Kiss.
The exact description of the doubloon is a 15 gauge anodized aluminum coin with reeded edges and the front side featuring the heads of Kiss in costume engraved in the doubloon with the Kiss wording at the top and 1983 date at the bottom. The rear of the doubloon reads, "Creatures of The Night" New Orleans Superdome B-97
To try to put a retail value on this which to me is almost impossible, I would say about $100.00
Thanks for Looking

Krewe of Satan .999 Fine Silver Mardi Gras Doubloon

If you want to have probably the most scarce doubloon in the world of Mardi Gras and you collect Satan Memorebilia, here it is. This is a 1oz .999 Fine Silver Krewe of Satan doubloon with Snakes on the rear forming the first letter of word Satan. This was a very limited strike doubloon and I can tell you from personal experience in my 20 years of collecting Mardi Gras memorebilia I have never come across one of these. This is probably one of the most sought after doubloons of its kind featuring to of the most evil characters in our history.
It is called THE DEVIL'S DOUBLOON which is an image of Satan on the front side, and an image of Snakes like the headress of Medussa on the rear.

The Carnival club that put this out was called, " The Krewe of Satan", the organazation lasted approximatly 8 years and lost funding in the early 80's. The popularity of this krewe however has not faded and it's memorebilia is always in high demand.

This is your chance to get a great piece of Mardi Gras history that you will probably never see up for sale again.

This coin is not dated but from the theme is early 70's

The Lost Art of Mardi Gras Doubloon Creation

I have been collecting Mardi Gras doubloons most of my life and about 5 years ago I started selling some of them on Ebay. Many people over the years have asked me about the history of doubloons and how they were made, so I did a little research and found this great information about a famous local doubloon maker.

H. Alvin Sharpe is the father of the doubloon. In 1959 H. Alvin Sharpe presented to the Captian of the REX organization an idea for a new Mardi Gras throw which would be a safe and attractive momento of the King of Carnival's reign. REX gave Sharpe the go-ahead to strike a " Carnival doubloon," and thats how the doubloon was born.

If the initials " H.A.S.," are inscribed on a coin, you will be guaranteed Superior workmanship. Alvin Sharpe was the master of the lost art of the " intaglio cut die" process. This is a painstaking method of engraving by hand which is an art form that freezes history in metal. A very large portion of all the doubloons I sell were designed by Sharpe. This same process has been taken over by almost all of the carnival organizations and many of the doubloons have the initials or the name of the artist engraved in them.

Since REX introduced it's famous doubloon in 1960, that changed the face of Mardi Gras, not only did every carnival organization follow the lead of REX, but doubloons were struck for every occasion, from grocery store openings to political races. I have hundreds of doubloons in my auctions and store which have many different types of themes from Carnival Clubs to political and Disney themes. I am certian that you will find at least one or more that you can add to your carnival memoribilia. If you have any questions about doubloons or any of my auctions please feel free to email me. I check my email daily.
